Let me know what you think.
"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life."

The quote seems correct but it gives the wrong impression that 'happiness' or what he calls 'living' is the way to go.You also get a different form of happiness by searching for these answers,because the happiness that arises after a sacrificial life is the best form of it.
ReplyDeleteA philosopher whos looking for answers of life will get immense happiness whenever he discovers or realises a new philosophy.
'Normal' crowd would get perputual happiness by not worrying about answers and just plain entertainment.But this form of happiness is in no way near to the ecstacy felt by the philosopher.
Uszhoo!! I love your second paragraph comment piyush. But I think its normal to doubt that anyone (even a philosopher) can discover a philosophy. Philosophies are too general to discover, and too hard to prove etc, right?
ReplyDelete@pgm:
ReplyDeleteYour outlook is constrained..It's silly to assume new philosophies are impossible to come by. In fact, they are far easier than new technologies to come by.
@Piyush:
You made me a fan of 'your' philosophy by your comment.
@Comment to the post:
Ignorance is bliss, may be you would support this. But then, if you don't want to discover answers to certain questions I would advice a life cut-off from the society, in the wild, where nature will automatically feed you with the answers to questions you could never think of. Else, just going on and enjoying life as it is, is one of the misleading concepts and which is so common. Change is the law of nature, and we must all contribute to it rather than sitting by and watching others do it.
Piyush is right, the joy of finding an answer to a question we think, is far more than the joy experienced than living life the way it is.
What this quote means, is live by the rules made for us, and don't consider deviation from them to experience best form of happiness and living.
I wonder if that makes sense.
"What this quote means, is live by the rules made for us, and don't consider deviation from them to experience best form of happiness and living." - I think you need to reread the quote. Why acc to you is the quote saying that we should sit tight and not stretch the boundaries? The happiness part tells you not to be unsatisfied. The life part says don't question the meaning of life. Nothing about 'dont deviate from rules set to us'.
ReplyDeleteIf Piyush is right in saying that the joy of finding an answer to a question we think is far more than the experienced by living life the way it is, I say you can't find any such answer [up for debate id bet].
Pradeep, that was a cheap stunt to increase your number of comments by forcing me into commenting again.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing so 'fun' in living life the way it is. For those who believe living life to the fullest, I often see them complaining to things. It's only because they don't want to stand up, and want everything to be destined for them.
The simple way of life is earn it. Living life to the fullest is your right, changing the world and progressing it your duty. This change is brought about by the very same answers Piyush talks about.
When I say stretching apart from the rules again as I have talked earlier, I don't mean civil rules, but social ones. A certain set of cliched rules which ensure you will be strong in social relationships deviating from which you end up being strange. I would say seek fun in your work and this deviation, rather than holding to a definition of fun which has some certain definitions socially as described in:

The quote is simple english with no hidden philosophies. So I'll have to ask you: Are you searching for what happiness consists of? Are you looking for the meaning of life? Particularly to the second one, are you satisfied with your "simple way of life being earn it." philosophy? Are you happy LOOKING for the answers?
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, duties are boring by the way :P If I wanna have fun, I'll shirk off a few 'duties'.

ReplyDeleteThe line I fear.
If everyone wants everything to come to them for free, world will be going down each and every second- because then rights and fun for you at free, must come at the expense of someone who is performing his duties.
Though you may criticize it for deviating off the topic,I think here authoritarian govt. would be far better than democratic to take care of all these lazy states, who are unwilling to work, yet are the first to demand.
Yeah, I am looking for a meaning of life, I am more than happy looking for the answers. It is teaching me something new at each and every stage of life, and making me wonder how it can be. It's so interesting. The prospect of imagination
"It is teaching me something new at each and every stage of life". Congratulations! From my heart, congrats!
ReplyDelete"The line I fear."
Somehow once I'd stated that, I felt it was a bit odd. An apt reaction...
